Fire Risk Assessment – A Case Study of NCT Delhi

Abstract

Fire risk assessment (FRA) is essential for ensuring safety in industrial urban areas, particularly in rapidly urbanizing cities such as New Delhi, where industrial facilities coexist with densely populated residential zones. Industrial hubs including Bawana, Naraina, Okhla, and Mundka face elevated fire risks due to inadequate safety infrastructure, poor electrical systems, improper hazardous material storage, and weak regulatory compliance. Major incidents such as the Anaj Mandi (2019) and Mundka (2022) fires highlight the urgent need for systematic fire risk assessment and effective enforcement of fire safety regulations. FRA provides a structured approach to identifying fire hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing preventive and mitigation measures through engineering controls, safety management, and emergency preparedness. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of fire risk assessment research to examine publication trends, influential authors, journals, institutions, and countries, collaboration networks, emerging research themes, and methodological advancements, including the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, fuzzy logic, the Internet of Things (IoT), and simulation-based models.
